MU to receive nearly $25M for new ag research lab

The University of Missouri has been awarded nearly 25 million dollars of federal funding for a plant bio-science laboratory.

The lab will house USDA-Agricultural Research Service scientists based at MU.

The dean of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, Christopher Daubert, says the facility will allow researchers to better help Missouri farmers.

“This facility and this research helps those crops that are of importance or critical to Missouri’s agriculture,” Daubert said.

He said the new ARS lab will boost collaboration between the ARS and university, providing MU researchers with better tools.

“The ARS programs will bring cutting-edge technology and equipment to a land-grant university,” he said.

Daubert says the first step is to bring together university faculty and ARS scientists for a two to three-year planning period for the new lab.
