Iowa and Nebraska biofuel plants donate to hand sanitizer production

Biofuel plants in Iowa and Nebraska are donating ethanol and glycerin for production of hand sanitizer.

In Iowa, the ingredients were donated by ethanol producer Absolute Energy of St. Ansgar and Western Iowa Energy, a biodiesel plant at Wall Lake. The hand sanitizer will be produced by Iowa Prison Industries and distributed free of charge by the state for priority use.

In Nebraska, Omaha-based ethanol producer Green Plains has donated industrial ethanol to the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) to be used in the production of hand sanitizer.

The donated product is produced at Green Plains’ York, Nebraska facility. Once the hand sanitizer is produced, it will be given to high priority facilities impacted by the coronavirus.
