March weather warmer than normal for Ohio

Ohio was warmer and a little wetter than normal during March.

The USDA says the statewide average temperature was five degrees warmer than normal and while precipitation was close to usual levels, ponding was reported in some winter wheat fields.

Producers spent the month top dressing winter wheat when possible, applying herbicides to cover crops, applied anhydrous, and tiled fields.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume Monday.
