Abnormally dry patches continue in Michigan

Dry conditions persist in Michigan’s Central Lower Peninsula and Thumb despite scattered rains last week.

The USDA says corn condition improved slightly to 64 percent good to excellent, with 85 percent in the dough stage and 35 percent dented while corn silage harvest reached eight percent.

Soybeans are rated 60 percent good to excellent with 98 percent filling pods and five percent dropping leaves.  Only 43 percent of dry beans are rated good to excellent.

Peach harvest continues while blueberries are nearly finished, and early season apple harvest began.  Potato growers are reporting above-average yields as their harvest continues.
