Minnesota farmers catching up on planting
Minnesota farmers are catching up on planting after a slow start.
USDA’s latest weekly crop report shows corn planting is now one day ahead of the five-year average at 80 percent complete. Corn emergence is 44 percent.
Soybeans are 53 percent planted compared to 29 percent a year ago and 57 percent normally.
For small grains, spring wheat is 74 percent planted, barley is at 66 percent, and 77 percent of the intended oat acres are seeded.
Dry edible bean planting reached 27 percent, 56 percent of potatoes are planted, and sugarbeet planting is 94 percent complete.
The first cutting of alfalfa is underway with 68 percent of hay rated in good to excellent condition.
