Will horse processing resume soon in the U.S.?

The owner of the Missouri plant that is preparing for horse processing says some hurdles have been removed but others remain. A federal appeals court in Denver lifted a temporary injunction against USDA horse slaughter inspection ruling that the Humane Society of the United States had “failed to meet their burden” to keep the injunction in place.  Rains tells Brownfield Ag News the hurdle that remains is the state operating permit from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) – which excluded horses from the company’s waste water permit.  On the other side of the issue, the attorney for Front Range Equine Rescue tells Brownfield the organization is parallel partners with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) in trying to stop horse processing in the U.S. and they have many cards yet to play.
