Dow’s 2,4-D herbicide resistant trait passes USDA test

Dow’s genetically engineered 2,4-D herbicide resistant trait called Enlist cleared a big hurdle last week when the USDA, in a draft Environmental Impact Statement, gave tentative approval to the new biotech event.

While many farmers are anxious to add this new weapon to their weed management arsenal, others have expressed concern that overuse of 2,4-D eventually could lead to the development of 2,4-D resistant weeds.  We discussed that concern and other questions about Enlist with Dow’s Damon Palmer, U.S. Commercial Leader for the Enlist Weed Control System, who says they hope to be able to deliver the product to U.S. farmers in 2015.
