Todd Mortensen, who ranches west of Pierre in west-central South Dakota, is a big advocate for holistic resource management.  At a recent conservation symposium in Lincoln, Nebraska,  Mortenson explained to us how, in the 1980’s, he learned about holistic management that moves cattle across the land similar to the movement of buffalo herds.
