Report indicates hog herd expansion is not happening yet

It looks like pork producers are not in a hurry to expand.

Despite a much improved profit picture for 2014, the most recent hogs and pigs report did not indicate that an expansion of the hog herd is taking place.  In fact, the breeding inventory number in that report was actually down one percent from last year, a development that left ag economist/market analyst Altin Kalo of Steiner Consulting Group scratching his head.
