Cash hogs are sharply higher at midday with fairly light negotiated purchases.  Processors are starting the day more aggressive in their procurement effort as domestic demand could return to more normal levels following the holiday.  Demand for US pork on the global market has been relatively strong – and that is expected to continue.  The industry continues to monitor the availability of market-ready hogs.  And there’s still the unknown impact of Prop 12 in California on demand. Barrows and gilts at the National Daily Direct are $4.40 higher with a base range of $85 to $94 and a weighted average of $91.29 and the Eastern Corn Belt is $4.11 higher with a weighted average of $91.  Prices at the Iowa/Minnesota and the Western Corn Belt were not reported due to confidentiality.
