11% of U.S. corn, 10% of soybeans harvested

This year’s U.S. corn and soybean harvests continue to trail their respective average paces. Soybeans made a bigger week to week jump than corn as some producers in parts of the Midwest and Plains wait for corn to dry down, to lower input costs. Also, corn planting was generally slowed down by early season rainfall and some areas had to replant.

As of Sunday, 11% of corn is harvested, compared to the five year average of 17%, with 93% of the crop dented and 51% mature, also both behind normal. 61% of U.S. corn is in good to excellent condition, unchanged on the week.

10% of soybeans are harvested, compared to 12% typically this time of year, and 63% of beans are dropping leaves, matching the usual pace. 60% of soybeans are rated good to excellent, up 1% and atypical because crop conditions usually decline heading into harvest.

24% of winter wheat is planted, compared to 28% on average, with early delays largely linked to harvest activity, weather, or both.

42% of pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent shape, down 3% on the week.
