2015 tomato production down in Ohio

The Ohio field office of the National Ag Statistic Service (NASS) is forecasting a smaller tomato crop in Ohio.

Contracted acres in 2015 totaled 4,200, 200 acres fewer than last year. Processing tomato production is forecast at 109,200 tons, down 29% from 2014.

Nationally, contracted tomato production is forecast at 14.9 million tons, up 2.2 percent from last year. Contracted harvested acres is up 5,600 acres to 307,700 nationwide.
