61% of U.S. corn, soybeans in good to excellent condition

The USDA’s national crop condition rating for corn declined over the past week, while soybeans held. Crop conditions in many key growing areas were non-threatening and crop conditions tend to move lower as crops get closer to harvest.

92% of corn has reached the dough making stage, 60% has dented, and 12% has reached maturity, all slower than average. 61% of the crop is in good to excellent shape, down 1% on the week and 13% below a year ago.

The USDA is expected to report its first U.S. corn harvest estimate of the season next week. 97% of soybeans are at the pod setting stage and 11% are dropping leaves, both very close to normal. 61% of beans are in good to excellent condition, unchanged from last week, but down 12% from last year.

89% of the spring wheat crop is harvested, compared to 78% typically this time of year.

47% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are rated good to excellent.
