A good spring for early fieldwork

A mid-Missouri farmer says the warm and dry conditions this March has encouraged some fieldwork.

Russell Wolf tells Brownfield “anhydrous is going down, some dirt work is going on, but I haven’t heard of anyone planting anything yet.”

Wolf says corn on his farm is typically planted in early April and the soybeans follow.

“We try to stick with a 50/50 rotation of corn and soybeans.”

He also says minimizing tillage is one way to keep moisture in the ground and no-till will be his strategy heading into another dry spring.

Brownfield interviewed Wolf at the Missouri Soybean Cover Crop Field Day.
