Ag groups tell Governor Nixon their top pick
Nine of the Missouri’s leading agriculture groups say they want a former state lawmaker as the new director of Agriculture.
In a letter to Governor Jay Nixon, they asked him to consider Frank Barnitz, a farmer and restaurant owner in Salem, Missouri and former legislator who they describe as “a transformational leader who works for the betterment of agriculture and rural communities.”
Nixon’s office announced last week that Ag Director Jon Hagler had been replaced by Department of Natural Resources official Harry Bozoian who would serve as Acting Ag Department Director.
The letter says while there are several qualified people who could lead the ag department the groups favor Barnitz.
It was signed by:
Missouri Cattlemen’s Association
Missouri Pork Association
Missouri Chapter of the Poultry Federation
Missouri Corn Growers Association
Missouri Soybean Association
Missouri Dairy Association
Missouri Egg Council
Missouri Federation of Animal Owners
Missouri Farm Bureau
THANK GOD! A candidate is actually mentioned that makes sense.
