Arla to close Michigan plant

Danish dairy cooperative Arla Foods is going to close one of its two dairy plants in the U.S. As part of a streamlining effort, the co-op will close the plant at Muskegon, Michigan and move the production to Denmark by the end of the year. 20 jobs will be lost. An Arla spokesman tells Dairy Reporter sales of products from the Michigan plant have not been satisfactory.

Along with the closure, Arla will pull its Saga Blue Brie from the U.S. market, they will continue to market brie in the U.S. under the Castello brand.

The move will not affect Arla’s Holland Town Dairy at Kaukauna, Wisconsin.
