Arnold takes home American Star Farmer award at National FFA Convention

Minnesota FFA member Joe Arnold took home the American Star Farmer award at last week’s National FFA Convention.

Arnold, part of the Lac qui Parle Valley chapter, says he grew his first crop four years ago.

“In 2013 I started growing corn, and have progressed to growing corn, soybeans, navy beans, kidney beans and sugar beets.”

Arnold now operates nearly 1,000 acres near his home in Holloway.

“I’ve learned a lot about marketing (like) using different derivatives.  And tax planning goes into farming,  along with agronomic practices too.”

Arnold graduated from the University of Minnesota-Crookston earlier this year and plans to farm full-time.
