Calls for farm bill extension getting louder

The chorus in Congress to extend the current farm bill is getting louder.

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa tells Brownfield he’s been calling for a one-year extension since mid-September.

“So I’m just glad that the leaders of our two (agriculture) committees are getting together and are going to probably be announcing that whenever they decide they want to announce it.”

Senate Ag Committee chair Debbie Stabenow recently called for an extension, and House Ag Committee ranking member David Scott said late last week extending the 2018 Farm Bill is the responsible thing to do.  He says it would provide farmers, ranchers, and foresters some certainty while a new five-year farm bill is worked on.
