Catlett: Great time to be in agriculture

Lowell Catlett at the Angus Means Business Convention in Kansas City, Nov. 5, 2014.Growing world wealth is good news for farmers.  Futurist and agriculture economist Lowell Catlett of New Mexico State University repeated time and again in a speech Wednesday that now’s the best time ever to be in agriculture.  In an interview with Brownfield, Catlett said the world is wealthy enough to have the food they want, but he said they need to depend on others to produce it.

“It bodes well for countries that have a rich agriculture like we do that we can supply those markets, not only gluten free and organic and free range, but for just giving protein to the world,” Catlett told Brownfield Ag News, “and that’s fabulous.”

Speaking to Brownfield Ag News following a speech to the Angus Means Business Convention, Catlett said that meat production could double to meet growing protein demand.  He added that it is most likely to be produced in Canada and the U.S.
