Committee to vote on McKalip nomination

The Senate Finance Committee is set to vote on the nomination of Doug McKalip as chief ag negotiator at the U.S. Trade Representative office tomorrow.

McKalip, a longtime U.S. Department of Agriculture official, is currently serving as senior adviser to US Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack.  

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley, a finance committee member, says he will likely support the nomination.

“I think his 30 years of work in that area make him well qualified to do it,” he says.

The Iowa Republican made these comments during a call with reporters on Tuesday.

If voted favorably out of committee, the nomination will go before the full Senate.
