Corn begins to emerge in Arkansas

The USDA reports corn is beginning to emerge in parts of Arkansas.

In the agency’s first weekly crop progress and condition report of the season, USDA says 11% of corn is planted compared to 6% at this time last year and 12% for the five-year average. 1% has emerged, compared to 2% on average.

Rice planting began last week with 5% planted compared to 2% at this time last year and 4% on average.

Soybean planted also started with 2% in the ground, in line with this time last year and the five year average.

Three percent of the winter wheat crop has headed, slightly ahead of this time last year but behind the five year average. The crop is rated 57% good to excellent.

Pasture conditions are 19% good to excellent with hay conditions under 30% good to excellent. 98% of topsoil has adequate or surplus moisture to kick off the planting season.
