Corn planting kicks off in Tennessee

Tennessee farmers have started planting corn.

In USDA’s first weekly crop progress and condition report of the season, the agency says there were 4.5 days suitable for field work last week with 1% of corn being planted, in line with last year.

The winter wheat crop is rated 59% good to excellent, with some reports of frost damage in the middle part of the state.

Severe weather with high winds came through Tennessee last week causing damage to barn roofs and downed trees. 98% of the state’s topsoil has adequate to surplus moisture.

Pasture conditions are considered 44% good to excellent.
