Corn yields have been a surprise
Central Indiana farmers Chris and Jennifer Campbell started harvest earlier this week. Jennifer says they were pleasantly surprised. “We’ve run a couple of smaller fields and we’re in a bigger field today,” she says. “Corn is running about 21 to 22 percent moisture. It’s actually a little better than we anticipated.”
Campbell says yields yesterday were about 20 bushels better than they had projected.
She tells Brownfield before they started harvest they had some concern about weed and disease pressure. “I’m in the tractor right now running the grain cart and I’m surprised at how clean it is from weed pressure,” she says. “It is nothing like I had anticipated. And the corn is holding up and standing really well.”
Campbell says they should start cutting beans by the end of next week.
Really inspiring.
