Agricultural ties between the U.S. and Cuba will take another step forward Friday when Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack hosts Cuba’s minister of agriculture Gustaro Rodriguez Rollero on a visit to Iowa.

Vilsack will take Rodriguez ion on a tour of Iowa farms, agribusinesses and research facilities. When Vilsack visited Cuba in March, he and Rodriguez signed a memorandum of understanding that establishes a framework for sharing ideas and research between the two countries.  Vilsack says both he and President Obama believe that food and agriculture can serve as a bridge to foster collaboration between the two countries.  And he points out that both Cuban and American farmers and ranchers have expressed interest in expanding commercial opportunities.
