Diesel, fertilizer prices weigh on Minnesota farmers

A U.S. Senator is hearing skepticism from farmers about a possible export ban on diesel.

Minnesota Democrat Tina Smith visited a farm in southwest Minnesota Friday.

“The price of diesel is upper most on everyone’s mind. And there was a lot of skepticism I would say amongst this group of farmers about whether some sort of a diesel export ban was going to have much of an impact on how much they are going to pay.”

She says there’s also a lot of frustration.

“Frustrating for people when they see that we’re in this trade war with Canada, while at the same time the President is lavishly entertaining the Premier of China. It just doesn’t make sense to people as they’re sort of struggling to hold it together.”

Smith says rising fertilizer prices and high interest rates are other concerns.
