Eastern pasture and rangelands rebounding

Pasture and rangelands are much improved over this time last year across the Eastern half of the U.S. USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says most are in good to excellent condition which bodes well for hay production and, of course, forage crops…

“We’re actually seeing a number of states now reporting now reporting more than 80-percent of their pastures rated good to excellent. And, certainly, a big difference from last year in Illinois with 89% rated good to excellent. This time last year, the pasture and range was already browning out across the Midwest.”

Rippey says 95% of Mississippi, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland and – in the northeast, Maine pastures are in good to excellent shape.
