Fall shoulder season brings renewed BRD concerns for dairy producers

Seasonal threats are top of mind for dairy producers attending World Dairy Expo this week.

Zoetis technical services veterinarian Dr. Joe Armstrong says the fall ushers in new challenges.

“There’s shoulder season and there’s a lot of BRD (Bovine Respiratory Disease) that we’re seeing.”

He tells Brownfield producers need to work through BRD in calves but also the adult herd occassionally.

“All that goes into (management), whether that’s day one care with colostrum, whether that’s bedding and nutrition and bunk space and water. All those things matter the most, and we need to take care of them.”
