Farm Bureau estimates 3.6 million ag acres hit by floods

After surveying its state organizations, the American Farm Bureau Federation estimates that nearly three-point-six million acres of farmland have been impacted by the recent flooding devastation in the southern U.S.

That includes an estimated 40 percent of this year’s rice crop.

Arkansas tops the list with a million acres affected.  Illinois reports 500-thousand, Mississippi 600-thousand and Missouri 570-thousand.

Farm Bureau officials says it’s critical that the government act quickly to rebuild damaged levees and allow producers to make plans for the future.
