Farm groups: disaster aid is needed now

More than 130 farm groups and banks are calling on President Trump and Congress to pass a disaster relief bill.

Efforts to pass a bill have been stalled by disagreements over additional aid to Puerto Rico.

In a letter, the groups say that farms endured a difficult year in 2018 and the trend continues in 2019 with recent flooding in the Midwest, where estimated losses in Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri are more than $3 billion.

The groups say it’s critical and time-sensitive to deliver disaster relief now as the livelihoods of farm families and the economic health of rural communities are at stake.
