Farmers looking for corn market opportunities

A grain and cattle farmer in eastern South Dakota is looking for opportunities to market some corn in the New Year.

“There’s a lot of grain in this part of the country that needs to be moved.”

Matt Bainbridge tells Brownfield farms near Mitchell had an unexpectedly good corn crop this year and the local prices reflect it.

“Right now, the prices are $4.20 or $4.30 for the cash price and people aren’t too happy about it.”

He says USDA’s upcoming January supply and demand report might give the corn markets enough of a boost to make selling corn more attractive.

“I thought after harvest we might get a chance to get to $5 and now, it’s looking more like $4.50 to $4.75 might get some movement.”

USDA’s next supply and demand report will be released on January 12.
