A fascinating discussion during Food Dialogues

Dr. Bruce McPheron, Dean of the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) at The Ohio State University found the discussion during Thursday’s Food Dialogues: Ohio fascinating, with a couple of things that stood out.

“One is the fundamental disconnect between what the science is all about and what people think the science is all about,” said Dean McPheron. “That’s an opportunity for those of us in the education business, through extension, through our classroom training, we still have a great opportunity to help people understand those connections.”

Dean McPheron tells Brownfield his second takeaway from the Food Dialogues discussion was the need for a systems solution to food and that begins, he says, with an understanding that the food system is a very complex series of choices.

“Consumers really deserve access really to everything that we can produce whether its global, local, conventional, organic, you name it there’s a place for that in the discussion,” McPheron said.
