February’s dairy product production mostly lower on the year

Dairy product production was mostly lower for February with limited milk supplies.

Total cheese production was 1.11 billion pounds, up more than six on the year but more than five percent below the prior month. Italian cheese production was up six percent on the year but down nearly seven percent month while American cheese was up more than four percent on the year and down nearly six percent from January.

Butter production totaled 184 million pounds, down more than one percent from the prior year and more than five percent from the month before.

Nonfat dry milk was down nearly seven percent from 2021 and skim milk powder was down more than six percent. Dry whey production was down fractionally on the year while lactose was up more than 17 percent.
