Grants still available for new veterinarians

Wisconsin’s State Veterinarian says there is still money available in a grant program to help new food animal veterinarians.  Dr. Paul McGraw says the USDA Veterinary Medical Loan Repayment Program is offering up to 25-thousand dollars a year to vets working in one of six Wisconsin regions with a veterinarian shortage, but he says the application deadline is March 16th.

Grant recipients must commit to working at least three years in the underserved regions, and the new veterinarians must work with cattle.  McGraw says expertise in swine, poultry, goats, and sheep will also be needed in some regions of Wisconsin.  The program is also available in selected areas of other states.

More information about the application and program can be found online, here.
