High winds cause planting season dust storm in central Illinois

A dust storm limited visibility for farmers and motorists near Montgomery County Illinois on Monday.

Illinois State Police say winds blew freshly worked soil from nearby fields causing zero visibility in the area.

News Channel 20 reports the storm caused a pile up of more than 60 vehicles that closed Interstate 55 for at least 17 miles near Farmersville and Divernon.  Visibility was further limited by the smoke from two tractor-trailers and other vehicles that caught fire in the accident. More than 30 injuries and multiple deaths have been reported.
