Hot, dry August trimmed soybean yield potential

A farmer in southeastern South Dakota says he’s a little disappointed with his soybean crop as harvest begins.

Matt Bainbridge says the hot, dry conditions in August trimmed the yield potential.

“A lot of flat pods and missed potential, I guess.”

Winter wheat is being seeded as soybeans are harvested and Bainbridge says he’s optimistic the upcoming rains will help crop establishment.

“We haven’t had good winter wheat condition the past two falls and with this upcoming moisture, things should get off to a good start.”

Bainbridge says corn harvest is on hold and overall, the corn has been good.
