Illinois crop conditions trailing last year, planting unfinished

Continuous above average rainfall and below average temperatures have Illinois crop conditions trailing behind last year as planting is still underway.

The USDA rates Illinois corn as 47% good to excellent compared to 83% at this time last year. Ninety-two percent of the corn crop is planted and 84% has emerged.

In the first soybean rating of the year, USDA reports the crop is 42% good to excellent compared to 78% at this time last year. Seventy-nine percent of the crop is planted and 67% has emerged.

Illinois winter wheat is rated only 27% good to excellent compared to 53% last year. Fifteen percent of the crop is harvested compared to the five-year average of 47%.
