Illinois Farm Bureau supports trade comments in State of the Union address

Illinois Farm Bureau President Richard Guebert supports President Trump’s trade comments in the State of the Union address, but is calling for action.

He says Illinois Farm Bureau encourages President Trump to make a fair trade deal with China and back his demand for quick approval of the USMCA. He says more than 30% of Illinois farmers’ income is from exporting soybeans, pork and other agricultural products.

Guebert says Illinois farmers are also ready to roll up their sleeves and work with Congress to pass a bill that will rebuild the nation’s infrastructure. He says rebuilding 85-year-old locks on the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers will allow Illinois to be more competitive in the global market.
