Illinois farm families to be featured on Casey’s pizza boxes

During the month of October each box of Casey’s pizza in Illinois will come with a flyer featuring 10 family farms from across the state.

The promotion is a continuation of the “We are the 96%” campaign by the Illinois Farm Families Coalition to bring awareness that 96% of Illinois farms are family owned.

Lindsay Mitchell with IL Corn says the partnership is an investment in consumer engagement.

“Families that maybe don’t understand agriculture, they trust other families. So whenever we highlight that statistic we’re really making an opportunity for farmers to be able to talk to non-farmers and for them to start to build a relationship.”

She tells Brownfield Casey’s is an ideal partner to spread the message because they have stores in nearly every county of the state.

“Not only is it a great opportunity to bring the campaign to farmers in rural areas and folks that don’t understand agriculture in rural areas, but also urban areas. I live in the middle of Bloomington-Normal and have a Casey’s right down the road from me so this is reaching a lot of people who may not understand agriculture.”

As part of the promotion, Illinois Farm Families and Caseys will also give away 96 pizzas at five different grain elevators. Farmers delivering to CHS Elburn in Maple Park, CGB Enfield in Enfield, Big River Energy in Galva, Gateway FS in Carlyle, and Frito Lay in Sidney from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on October 9th will receive a free Casey’s pizza and a drink to commemorate the partnership and celebrate National Pizza Month.

The Illinois Farm Families Coalition consists of the Illinois Corn Growers Association, Illinois Beef Association, Illinois Farm Bureau, Illinois Pork Producers Association, Illinois Soybean Association and Midwest Dairy.
