Indiana dairy farmer says challenges continue in the industry

A northeastern Indiana farmer says there are many challenges facing the dairy industry.

Andrew Kuehnert works on his family’s sixth generation dairy farm in Allen County.

He says the main issue dairy farmers are facing is financial stress.

“What farmers are getting paid right now is very minimal for what it could be and it’s making it very hard for farms of all sizes to survive in the industry,” he says.

He says people can help the industry by consuming more dairy products.

“I really would encourage anybody out there to drink more milk and eat more dairy products and that really would help our industry more as far as getting some more supply out of the market,” he says.

Kuehnert spoke to Brownfield at the 2019 Indiana Dairy Forum.
