Indiana farmer expresses concern over trade

A Northwestern Indiana farmer says she is concerned about the trade retaliation that is impacting farmers across the country.

Natasha Cox says farmers can’t continue to shoulder the burden for the rest of the US economy.

“Whether it is the cost of our goods and steel that’s going into our equipment and our grain bins that we use to carry our commodities, or more importantly, our goods that are going overseas to our trading partners, market access is the most important thing we can have as a farmer,” she says. “We spent years building these markets and to lose them overnight is very unfortunate.”

She tells Brownfield farmers must continue to voice their concerns about all ag policy concerns.

“NAFTA, tariffs, the Farm Bill, the Renewable Fuel Standard are all things that are impacting the American farmer today,” she says.

Cox spoke to Brownfield at the Indiana Ag Policy Summit hosted by the Indiana Corn Growers Association and the Indiana Soybean Alliance.
