Six individuals…one vision

2013-14 National FFA Officers

One of the great things about this job is the people one gets to meet. On Monday evening I had the opportunity to sit down with the six National FFA Officers. If you have ever worn a blue-and-gold jacket, you know the incredible individuals that rise to this level of leadership in an outstanding organization. While the bitter-cold temperatures hampered some of the plans for their visit to Wisconsin this week, it has not cooled the enthusiasm of these six young men.

They hail from Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, Iowa and Oregon, their backgrounds range from growing up on a dairy farm to growing up in the middle of a major metropolitan area. Some got their start in FFA in traditional ways, older siblings that were members, parents who are FFA advisors, one got his start when he bought a chicken for a dollar at the county fair.

But while their backgrounds are diverse, they are similar in many ways. Each is humbled to be chosen from a field of 43 high-caliber candidates, each knows that they have been afforded an incredible opportunity and each has an overwhelming desire to serve. They are united in one mission: build the people that will feed the world in the years to come.
