Iowa farmer nearly finished with harvest

Harvest is already winding down for a southwest Iowa farmer.

“We have about two days of soybeans left and about five days of corn.”

Ray Gaesser tells Brownfield he’s been pleasantly surprised by his corn and soybean crops. “It’s dry, but overall the crops are coming in pretty much normal yields maybe even slightly above normal.”

He says moisture was hard to come by throughout the growing season. “There’s some fields of corn that’s really good and some that aren’t so good, and it’s within a mile or two. That’s how spotty the rains were.”

Gaesser says some recent rain should help recharge soil moisture.
