Iowa farmer says drought taking a toll

A southwest Iowa farmer says his farm is in desperate need of precipitation.

Duane Aistrope tells Brownfield the drought conditions over the last three growing seasons is starting to add up. “We’ve really been dry. The crops we raised this year, I don’t know how we had good crops with no more rain than we had. Going into next year we are really short on moisture.”

He says a good winter snowpack could provide some relief. “We just had a little inch and a half here the last couple of days. That’s the first measurable amount of moisture we’ve had in quite some time.”

Aistrope raises corn and soybeans in Fremont County.
