Iowa farmer sees harvest marketing opportunities

Many farmers are thinking through grain marketing strategies while preparing for harvest.

Mark Jackson grows corn and soybeans in southeast Iowa.

“We’re raising this crop, let’s also do a good job of selling this crop. To be successful and stay at it for the long haul you need to be able to know your cost of production and sell when the opportunities are there.”

He tells Brownfield the corn market is improving.

“And right now you need to seriously look at corn prices, we’re almost at a three-year high on corn I think when it comes to cash corn coming out of the field or spring. There’s $5 corn available out there to be sold on the markets, so those are definitely opportunities for us all.”

Jackson says harvest should start in the next couple of weeks.
