Iowa remains dry

Another dry week allowed for extensive field work across Iowa.

In its latest crop progress report, the USDA says there were nearly seven days suitable to be in the field.

Farmers cut hay, chopped corn for silage, seeded cover crops, and prepared for grain harvest.

More than 75 percent of the state’s corn acreage has reached dent stage, three days behind the five-year average.

Corn rated in the good to excellent category remains at 60 percent.

Nearly half of the soybean crop is turning color—one day slower than normal—with 61 percent rated good to excellent.

South-central and southeast Iowa continue to be the driest parts of the state.
