Labor, trade top priorities for Hoosier pork producers

Indiana Pork Executive Director Josh Trenary says ag labor is a top priority for Hoosier pork producers this year.

“The thing you hear over and over, kind of a constant in the industry, is labor issues across the board,” he says. “The anecdotal knowledge we’re gaining from talking to members and allied industry folks on that is a great help, but it does highlight some needs there.”

He tells Brownfield trade is also a priority as Indiana is the nation’s fifth-largest hog producing state.

“Twenty-six percent of our products go overseas and any little blip in that export market can really wreak havoc on our markets,” he says. “We have to make sure we’re doing what we can to pick up that slack.”

He says the organization will also continue to support producers as the industry expands.

Trenary spoke to Brownfield at the Indiana Pork annual meeting in Indianapolis.
