Lasting impressions

From the Cuban people, to the Cuban countryside, John Linder of Morrow County Ohio says his first visit to the island nation has left a lasting impression.

“The visualization of a former Soviet tractor sitting in the corner, not growing up in weeds, but sitting there waiting on parts in the hopes that some year they actually get parts and can use it again, all the while they’re plowing the field with cattle.”

Linder says it was a reminder of how privileged he is, knowing that if he needs a part he can probably have it within an hour.

The Ohio corn, soybean and wheat farmer was among nearly 100 representatives of U.S. agricultural organizations that traveled to Cuba March 1-4 as part of the U.S. Agriculture Coalition for Cuba.
