Lots of SDS reports in Missouri soybeans

University of Missouri plant scientists are starting to get a lot of reports of SDS, Sudden Death Syndrome, in soybeans.  Extension specialist Bill Wiebold says they are coming from southwest Missouri – and areas along Interstate-70.  The unusual fungal disease appears every two to four years and infects soybean plants when they are just seedlings, “But the symptoms that you see occur later and, in fact, much of the damage is because you have defoliation. So, the earlier that happens, the more likely you are to have yield loss.” Wiebold says he would not be surprised to also get reports of SDS in soybeans in north Missouri.
