Michigan CARES Supplemental supports ag & food sector

Michigan ag leaders are commending state lawmakers and the governor for finalizing how more than $880 million in federal COVID-19 response funding is spent through the CARES Act Supplemental.

Ag leaders representing soybean, pork and dairy producers as well as ag businesses say the measure secures $10 million in critical assistance for food processors to continue safely operating and $5 million for farm safety grants to help Michigan farmers and their employees stay safe on the job.

It also supports Michigan’s food banks faced with historic demand.

The Agricultural Leaders of Michigan coalition includes GreenStone Farm Credit Services; the Michigan Agri-Business Association; the Michigan Milk Producers Association; the Michigan Pork Producers Association; and the Michigan Soybean Association.
