Michigan harvest pushes along

corn harvest from combine

Unseasonably warm weather has pushed Michigan’s grain harvest over the halfway point but it still lags behind average.

The Great Lakes Regional Ag Statistics office says 53 percent of the state’s corn crop was harvested for grain as of Sunday and condition remained steady at 67 percent good to excellent. Soybeans are 77 percent harvested, lagging the five year average by about 10 percent.  Winter wheat was 92 percent planted and 79 percent emerged.

Dry beans are 94 percent harvested. Sugarbeets are 60 percent harvested.  The fourth cutting of alfalfa is 72 percent complete.
